Erste Tag am dem Schule - 27 Februar 2017

It was a cold morning when I took a bus from Küttigen to the nearest bus stop of the school that I am placed. Everything was unknown and I was excited for it.

I never take a bus to school in Malaysia, my mother would have fetched me and dropped me in front of the school, just like the others. However, it's totally different here in Switzerland. Children learn to be independent, go to school by bicycle, bus or even train.

With the guidance of my host parents, I found my way to school. I had a meeting with Herr Burger, together with two new exchange students. We were told to choose subjects that we interested in. Unfortunately, Herr Burger didn't have the time to do a school tour with us and I was sent to the class right away.

I think I haven't talk about my school. Haha, pardon me.
I am in the Neue Kantonschule Aarau, klasse G2D.

It's located in the middle of a residence area, so the surrounding is always safe and quiet.

It was during German lesson. My classmates were already separated into groups and had practices for the drama performance. I followed one of the groups and this was how they were practising.

I took these pictures when my first day of school was over. Let's back to the part where I was sent into the class. My host father brought me to the correct classroom and I was on my own after that. When I stood at the entrance, everyone stopped what they were doing and looking at me. The lively atmosphere changed to an awkward one. I didn't introduce myself as the lesson began when I sat down. But before that, my classmate gave me a piece of chocolate cake. I was touched, really. I love cake!

I didn't understand German that much at that time, so for me, it's difficult. Although I could have guess what's the content of the lesson from graphs and equations, but it's difficult. I was feared and tensed of almost everything, although I pretended to look strong and calm.

My first day of school didn't go as what I expected. I was told by returnees, I read some facts about Swiss people, I knew that Swiss people are more likely to be reserved and not easily to be opened to a new coming person. It was still different than my expectation. It was very great over all, but there's always some missing parts.

Yeah ;) I should stop pouring out more deep feelings of an exchange student. It's not that I don't like to share my thoughts, but I think it's way better if you ask me personally :)

If you're curious about what does being an exchange student feels like, don't hesitate, choose a country, take your first step and be an exchange!!!
